The Opportunity
The Communications and Operations Manager is responsible for providing critical communications and infrastructure support to the organization. Under supervision of the Director of Grassroots Partnerships, and in consultation with the Executive Director, the Communications and Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that JLF’s organizational voice is powerful, strategic, and consistent across all communications channels, and for increasing the reach and amplification of JLF’s mission, vision, and values. Additionally, the person in this role will be a critical partner in ensuring that JLF’s internal data, systems, operations, and infrastructure are operating smoothly and efficiently to enable JLF to advance its mission with a high degree of reliability, consistency, and integrity.
This role will touch every area of JLF’s work, and offers the potential for meaningful professional growth within a small, collaborative, dynamic, and growing team and organization.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Strategy & Implementation
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to effectively engage JLF stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, grantee partners, philanthropy partners, and the broader community.
Create compelling content for various platforms, including social media, website, newsletters, press releases, and other marketing materials. Manage social media accounts, monitor engagement, and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
Collaborate with staff to ensure consistency of messaging across all communication channels.
Refine and sharpen JLF’s public voice and brand.
Monitor media coverage and track relevant trends and issues related to our work.
Database Management
Oversee the organization's database system (Salesforce), ensuring accurate and up-to-date information on our small pool of donors, volunteers, partners, and other stakeholders.
Conduct regular data hygiene processes, including data entry, cleaning, and deduplication.
Generate reports and analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of our communications and fundraising efforts.
Provide training and support to staff on database usage and best practices.
Administration, Systems, Infrastructure, and Operations Management
In partnership with the Director of Grassroots Partnerships, and with input from other key staff, responsible for monitoring and managing JLF’s digital infrastructure needs and solutions at the systems-level, including organizational task/project management tools (Notion, etc.), digital automation tools (Zapier, etc.), and other digital tools as needed.
Identifying opportunities and potential solutions to streamline or increase efficiency across JLF’s digital systems & tools.
Managing the adoption, integration, and smooth functioning of software & applications used across JLF’s areas of work.
Assist other staff in the planning and execution of programs and events, including fundraisers, community gatherings, retreats, political education events, and similar.
Coordinate logistical details, such as venue booking, vendor coordination, materials requisition, and guest communication for events and programs. o Provide operational support to facilitate the timely processing of expenses, reimbursements, and payments for consultants, vendors, and staff.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following competencies:

Deep understanding of anti-oppression principles and practices, particularly racial, economic, and gender justice and liberation approaches
High emotional intelligence, empathy, and a demonstrated track record of building meaningful, authentic, appropriate relationships with constituents and stakeholders
Maturity and discretion in handling sensitive matters, including upholding a high level of confidentiality as appropriate, communicating about sensitive and/or complex decisions with empathy and discretion; a strong track record of exercising good judgment in complex or challenging situations
Both/and thinking: the ability to maintain a collaborative mindset, acknowledge and respect seemingly contradictory perspectives, and approach complex problems with curiosity, creativity, empathy, and humility
Capacity to have an open mind to new, experimental ideas and approaches
Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with the Jewish social justice landscape

Both/and thinking: the ability to maintain a collaborative mindset, acknowledge and respect seemingly contradictory perspectives, and approach complex problems with curiosity and creativity.
The ability to translate abstract ideas about philanthropy, wealth, capitalism, structural oppression, Jewish communities, and the other topics core to JLF’s work into compelling & accessible language.
Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills in American English, including editing.
Sharp attention to detail.
Ability to understand the diverse needs & strengths/limitations of team members and take the lead on designing supportive operational systems that consider those needs.
Graphic design skills (Canva-level, not Adobe), an eye for compelling visual/graphic design, and comfort with applying principles of universal design and disability justice/accessibility to communications across multiple platforms and mediums.
High degree of comfort with technology, and an appetite for taking a DIY first pass at technical diagnostics and problem solving when systems and tools aren’t functioning as expected.
Comfort and demonstrated capacity to work well in a distributed, remote-first team operating with a high degree of trust, autonomy, and independence.
Comfort and skill with respectful, direct communication (radical candor).
Ability to leverage systems-thinking in service of creating efficient, accessible, predictable, and flexible systems for the organization.
Ability to know and communicate your own boundaries.
Comfort with taking accountability for dropped balls/mistakes and identifying strategies for moving forward.
Education and Experience
2-5 years of experience in the following areas: communications, database management, fundraising/development, and operations.
Life experience within the impacted communities and with the issues that many of our grantees are working to address is an asset, including but not limited to: racism, racial justice, and BIJOC (Black, Indigenous, and/or other Jew of Color) communities; Sephardi and/or Mizrahi Jewish communities; economic justice, poverty, and class; and experiences of systemic and structural marginalization within and beyond the US Jewish community.
Expectations, Compensation, and Responsibilities
This is a full time exempt role of approximately 40 hours a week.
Hours may be scheduled at employee’s discretion, but should include at least 2 days per week with 4 hours of direct overlap with the wider staff team within the hours of 9am – 5pm ET Monday – Friday. (Standard Friday work hours are adjusted seasonally for Shabbat, and on the days preceding Jewish holidays.)
Periodic travel may be required for fundraising or organizational events, scheduled in consultation with the employee.

Compensation
This is a full time salaried role with a salary range of $68,000 - $80,000.
