The Brick by Brick Experience

We’re focused on supporting your leadership

We’ve developed a dynamic curriculum that’s designed for each specific cohort. Our focus is on strategies for durable changes, paired with peer support to work through short-term challenges together. We understand the unique complexity that Jewish funders are navigating as we grapple with how to fund a future for the Jewish community that is free from antisemitism and white supremacy. We focus on supporting you as an individual and ensuring that you are not alone in making long-lasting changes to your grantmaking.

Many funders are seeking a community of support for their work, but some of the existing funder communities aren’t what they’re looking for. Brick by Brick is a community for bold experimentation, honest conversations, and rigorous support. We help each other become aligned with the values we hold and become more effective changemakers for the organizations we support.

As a participant, you will gain:

  • Clarity of vision for your work.

  • Strategy and skills to strengthen your grantmaking practice.

  • Trusting relationships with a diverse cohort of peers and movement leaders.

  • Tools and expert support to design and pilot a change within your grantmaking.

Overview of Curriculum

Semester 1: Understanding the problem and challenges to finding a solution

  • Hear from movement leaders about what funding challenges they face.

  • Learn about funding movement ecologies, and how intersecting theories of change work together.

  • Engage with peer funders about their trials and lessons with funding movement work.

  • Gain feedback from current grantees and other decision-makers on what challenges and misalignments they experience within your institution’s grantmaking.

Semester 2: Design and pilot changes to grantmaking

  • Go through an adaptive design process with our team of coaches, peer funders, movement leaders, and necessary decision-makers.

  • Experiment, workshop, and problem-solve emergent challenges with a community of fellow changemakers.

  • Establish metrics for evaluation and a feedback process to measure the effectiveness of your interventions.
